Global Data Centre Owner-Operator - strategic multi-hire programme
Following a major acquisition, a leading UK data centre provider partnered with McCabe & Barton to rapidly build internal capability and scale key teams. Within 12 months, we placed senior leaders, operational staff, and project specialists, creating a stable, aligned workforce ready to drive ambitious growth.
Challenge
Following a major acquisition and substantial investment, a leading UK-based data centre provider needed to insource several critical functions, scale existing teams, and secure interim specialists across Europe. With new construction projects underway and outsourcing contracts expiring, the organisation faced significant time constraints to build internal capability quickly.
Our Approach
McCabe & Barton partnered closely with the C-suite to gain deep insight into the organisation’s culture, immediate challenges, and long-term vision. We then executed a comprehensive, multi-faceted recruitment strategy:
- Senior Leadership – Deployed executive search methodologies, including talent mapping across international markets, to successfully place leaders in HR, Procurement, Health & Safety, Security & Compliance, and Engineering.
- Operational Teams – Delivered nine contingent hires to replace outsourced functions, including operational engineers, technical managers, data centre technicians, and team leads.
- Project Specialists – Sourced a combination of permanent and contract resources for engineering and technology project management roles.
Outcome
All positions were successfully filled within 12 months on a phased basis. The transition to an insourced model has created a more stable, invested workforce aligned with the client’s ambitious growth trajectory. The expanded senior leadership structure has enabled better distribution of responsibilities, while strategic contract hires maintain flexibility for short-term objectives and specialist expertise.
Legal Technology Analyst
A leading UK law firm partnered with McCabe & Barton to hire a specialist Legal Technology Analyst to support digital transformation and improve operational efficiency. We identified and placed a highly skilled professional with the right mix of technical expertise and sector experience. This appointment has strengthened the firm’s technology capabilities and enabled more effective delivery of legal services.
Challenge
The law firm required a Legal Technology Analyst to drive adoption of digital tools, streamline workflows, and support key technology initiatives. With existing teams stretched and ongoing digital transformation projects, the firm faced a tight timeline to hire a specialist who could quickly make an impact and align with both technical and legal requirements.
Our Approach
McCabe & Barton worked closely with the firm’s IT and operational leads to understand their technology landscape, strategic priorities, and team culture. We executed a focused search strategy:
- Candidate Mapping & Outreach – Identified professionals with a proven track record in legal technology, workflow optimization, and project delivery.
- Screening & Assessment – Evaluated candidates for technical proficiency, sector knowledge, and cultural fit to ensure immediate contribution.
- Placement & Onboarding Support – Guided the firm through offer negotiation and onboarding to maximise engagement and early impact.
Outcome
The Legal Technology Analyst role was successfully filled within weeks, enabling the firm to accelerate digital initiatives and improve operational efficiency. The new hire has quickly integrated into the team, supporting both short-term projects and long-term technology strategy, and adding measurable value across the firm.
Global Logistics + Advisory - Digital Transformation
A global logistics and advisory business engaged McCabe & Barton to hire an Interim CIO to lead a complex, multi-year digital transformation programme centred on ERP adoption and operational optimisation. We delivered a seasoned leader with the rare blend of technical, cultural, and strategic expertise required to drive change across a global environment. This successful appointment accelerated transformation efforts, unlocked significant projected cost savings, and led to ongoing engagements across permanent, contract, and advisory services.
Challenge
The HR Director and COO engaged McCabe & Barton to recruit an Interim CIO to lead a large-scale digital transformation programme focused on ERP adoption and the modernisation of core operational processes. The programme required both deep technology leadership and the ability to drive cultural change across a complex international organisation. An external consultancy had identified an opportunity to achieve £8m in annual cost savings through automation and improved use of technology, creating urgency around securing a leader with the right expertise.
We were appointed on a retained basis after the client’s existing recruitment partner confirmed they lacked the specialist capability to deliver senior IT and transformation hires.
Our Approach
Working closely with senior leaders, we invested time upfront to understand the organisation’s structure, culture, and strategic priorities. This insight allowed us to articulate both the challenges and opportunities effectively to the market. Our delivery approach included:
- Deep Candidate Search & Assessment – Identified leaders with extensive experience delivering transformation in complex global environments, with a strong track record in cultural change, ERP-led programmes, and technology optimisation.
- Comprehensive Screening – Assessed candidates not only on technical capability but also on leadership style, previous achievements, and alignment with the transformation’s objectives. We produced detailed career summaries to support client decision-making.
- Market Insight & Talent Advisory – Provided resource costing analysis to support business cases and project planning, enabling the CIO and senior stakeholders to forecast budget and staffing requirements.
- Talent Pipelining – Partnered with the Interim CIO to build a pipeline of permanent and contract resources aligned to upcoming workstreams and programme milestones.
- Overcoming Market Constraints – Used targeted search techniques to attract top-tier candidates despite the client’s non-central location and the scarcity of suitable talent.
Outcome
The Interim CIO was successfully appointed, providing the leadership required to set the IT roadmap, define a new Target Operating Model, and execute multiple concurrent workstreams. Our proactive partnership significantly reduced time-to-hire—averaging just nine days from instruction to offer—minimising delays to business-critical projects.
Following this success, McCabe & Barton continues to support the organisation with permanent and contract recruitment, as well as advisory services, to accelerate delivery of the transformation programme.
Global Investment Manager - Technology, Digital & Data Hiring Partnership
A global investment manager with $100bn AUM partnered with McCabe & Barton to source specialist talent across technology, digital, data, and business transformation. Operating within a niche private equity and alternatives environment, the firm required a recruitment partner who understood its culture, regulatory context, and the unique skillsets needed. Through a close, ongoing partnership, we have delivered a series of mid–senior hires across London and Leeds, supporting major transformation and data initiatives.
Challenge
A leading investment manager with $100bn AUM and approximately 500 employees globally engaged McCabe & Barton as part of a small Preferred Supplier List (PSL). The firm required support in sourcing highly specialised talent across digital, technology, and business transformation, operating within the niche environment of private equity and alternative asset management. With the organisation headquartered in London and technology functions also based in Leeds, the ability to understand both the industry and the nuances of each location was critical.
Our Approach
We established a close, long-term partnership led by a senior account manager who works directly with the client’s internal recruitment manager and meets regularly with senior leadership. This enables us to stay aligned with organisational change, upcoming programmes of work, and regulatory-driven demand.
Our delivery model includes:
- Flexible Engagements – Mainly contingent hiring on a sole-supplier basis, with retained search for selected senior roles requiring market mapping.
- Candidate Sourcing Strategy – Leveraging our network, targeted advertising, online databases, referrals, and headhunting to reach both active and passive talent.
- Deep Discovery & Role Understanding – Engaging with hiring managers and their teams to clarify role requirements, cultural context, success metrics, and career trajectory.
- Thorough Screening & Documentation – Interviewing and assessing candidates, providing detailed notes, and presenting diverse shortlists aligned to the client’s standards.
- End-to-End Process Management – Collaborating closely with internal recruitment teams to run a smooth, transparent interview and selection process.
This structured approach is supported by our flexible resourcing pool, ensuring a consistent pipeline of high-quality candidates across technology, digital, and data disciplines.
Outcome
Since 2019, McCabe & Barton has successfully delivered mid–senior level hires across both London and Leeds, supporting the client’s transformation agenda and strengthening their data and technology capability. Appointments include:
- Global Head of Data
- Finance Transformation Project Manager
- 2 × Senior Project Manager – Private Equity Technology
- 2 × Business Analysts
- Data Pipeline Developer
- Scrum Master
Our partnership continues to evolve, driven by deep sector understanding and a shared commitment to delivering specialist talent within a complex and highly regulated industry.
